The police count of the Jews of Räschen, February 1937; Gerhard is fifth on the list

The Jewish dentist of Dobristroh, near Großräschen

Gerhard Hurwitz

Gerhard Hurwitz was the only dentist in Dobristroh, a village beside Großräschen that is now called Freienhufen.

We know him from a single line. In February 1937 the police counted the Jews of the district and found five: Armin, Herbert, Kurt Mannheim, Paul Sachs, and, last, "Gerhard Hurwitz, the only dentist in the community of Dobristroh".

1933 – 1938

He was living and working in Dobristroh in February 1937. He was not among the men arrested in Großräschen in November 1938, and there is no Stolperstein for him.

What we don't know

Almost everything: when he was born, whether he had a family, and what became of him. He does not appear among the Jews deported from Germany, so we hope that he got away in time.
