Else Meyer née Gerechter

Berlin, 8 November 1888 – Riga-Jungfernhof, after Dec 1941

Else Gerechter was born in Berlin on 8 November 1888.

She married Hermann Meyer and made her home in Hamburg, where her children Ingrid and Walter were born in 1925 and 1926.

On 6 December 1941 Else, Ingrid and Walter were deported from Hamburg to Jungfernhof, near Riga, and murdered there. Else was fifty-three. Ingrid was sixteen and Walter fourteen.

Before 1933

Else lived in Hamburg from at least the 1920s. Ingrid was born on 3 September 1925 and Walter on 9 December 1926.

1938 – 1945

In May 1939 Else lived with Ingrid and Walter at Roonstraße 34 in Eimsbüttel. Hermann was not living with them. Her last address was Sonninstraße 16, where she was listed as a worker.

On 6 December 1941 the three of them were deported to Riga-Jungfernhof. Two cousins of the family from Hamburg were on the same train.

After

Stolpersteine for Else, Ingrid and Walter lie in Hamburg, in front of Roonstraße 34.

What we don't know

We don't know what happened to Hermann. One family tree says he was killed in Hamburg in March 1941, but no record of it has been found. We don't know the day Else and her children died.
