Armin's brother; Ruth's father
Robert Gerechter
Großräschen, 3 March 1896 – Berlin, 10 October 1936
aged 40
Robert Gerechter was born in Groß Räschen on 3 March 1896, one of Wilhelm and Cäcilie's sons. His Hebrew name was Reuven.
He became a dentist in Berlin. He married Erna Lauer, and they had two daughters, Ruth and Vera. For ten years the family lived at Frankfurter Allee 17, where Robert also had his practice.
He died in Berlin on 10 October 1936, after a severe illness. He was forty. He did not live to see his wife and his younger daughter taken. In Großräschen, a stone in the pavement remembers him with his brothers and sisters.
“Here lived Robert Gerechter. Born 1896. Persecuted. Left his home town. Died 10.10.1936.”
The Stolperstein in the pavement opposite Freienhufener Straße 2, Großräschen, laid on 22 March 2011. All nine stones
Before 1933
In November 1922, while he was still living in Groß Räschen, his engagement to Erna Lauer was announced by both their fathers. Their daughter Ruth was born in Berlin at the end of December 1923, and Vera in July 1926. From 1926 Robert's practice and the family home were at Frankfurter Allee 17, in the east of Berlin.
1933 – 1938
Robert went on working as a dentist into the Nazi years. He died in October 1936. The death notice was signed by "Erna Gerechter, née Lauer, with the children."
After
Six years later Erna and Vera were deported and murdered. Ruth survived. Years later she claimed in Berlin for what had been taken from the family home, down to parts of her father's dental surgery.
