Armin's sister
Frida (Frieda Alma) Gutmann née Gerechter
Groß Räschen, 17 June 1898 – Auschwitz, 1943
aged 44 when deported
Frieda Alma Gerechter, called Frida, was born in Groß Räschen on 17 June 1898.
She married Erich Gutmann in 1925, and their daughter Eva was born two years later. The family made their home in Hoyerswerda.
By 1943 they were living in Berlin, in the same house as her sister Edith. On 19 February 1943 Frida, Erich and Eva were deported together to Auschwitz and murdered. Frida was forty-four. Eva was fifteen.
“Here lived Frieda Alma Gerechter. Born 1898. Fate unknown. Declared dead.”
The Stolperstein in the pavement opposite Freienhufener Straße 2, Großräschen, laid on 22 March 2011. All nine stones
Before 1933
Early in 1925 Frida became engaged to Erich Gutmann, who was born in Guben and was then living in Greiffenberg in Silesia. Their daughter Eva was born in Großräschen on 29 June 1927. They lived in Hoyerswerda, in Lusatia.
1938 – 1945
In May 1939 the three of them were still in Hoyerswerda, at Mittelstraße 1. Later they moved to Berlin, to a flat on the second floor of Choriner Straße 53, where Edith, Ilse, Margarete and Siegfried also lived.
On 13 February 1943 they were made to sign declarations of everything they owned, and their flat was emptied that day. They were held at the collection camp on Große Hamburger Straße. On 19 February they were deported to Auschwitz together, with the rest of the household.
