Armin's brother

Georg Gerechter

Berlin, 1 March 1892 – missing since 9 May 1915 at Nieuport, Flanders

Georg Gerechter was born in Berlin on 1 March 1892, a son of Wilhelm and Cäcilie. He grew up in Groß Räschen, where his father had the store.

At twenty he invented something. In 1912 he registered his own design for a lighter with a flashlight built in.

When the First World War came he volunteered. On 9 May 1915, at Nieuport in Flanders, he went missing. He was twenty-three. He never came home.

Before 1933

Georg served as a volunteer with a reserve infantry regiment on the Yser front in Flanders. After he went missing, the first lists reported him badly wounded; months later he was listed as missing. The family counted him among the fallen. In 1919 his brother Erich had a tree planted in the Land of Israel "for his fallen brother Georg."
